The film Hanran, which depicts the Jeju 4·3 Incident, will be released on April 3 in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.

It had its world premiere at the Aichi International Women’s Film Festival, marking an early connection with Japanese audiences.
Director Ha Myung-mi noted that the history of Jeju 4·3 is deeply intertwined with the lives of Jeju people who settled in Japan.
Set in 1948 on Jeju Island, the film portrays a mother and daughter’s struggle for survival and attracted about 30,000 viewers in Korea.
It will also be screened at the Seoul 4.3 Film Festival 2026 on April 12, followed by a special talk with the director.
